Low Level Laser Therapy

Low level laser therapy puts light into tissue at a level too low to generate heat, which is where the name cold laser comes from. It is intended to support circulation and the tissue's own energy production, and it is used here alongside acupuncture, in the same visit, where your case calls for it.

How It Works
Three ways at the same thing
Most pain care works on the signal, turning down the alarm on its way to your brain. The plans built here are aimed at the other end, at the tissue the signal is coming from, and at the blood supply that tissue depends on. Needles do that one way. Microcurrent does it another. Light is a third. They are not three attempts at the same job, they are three different routes to the same place, which is why your plan usually has more than one of them in it.
How it works: The light goes in at a power too low to heat anything, so there is nothing to feel while it runs. It is intended to support circulation and the energy production the tissue draws on, which is the same target acupuncture and microcurrent are working toward from their own directions. Where laser is part of your plan it is delivered in the same visit as your acupuncture, on the same table, rather than as a second appointment you book and pay for separately.
The device is the easy part. Knowing when to reach for it is the job. Susan has been treating chronic and complex cases in Fort Lauderdale since 1994, and what decides whether light has a part in your plan is the same thing that decides everything else about it: what she finds at your evaluation, and how you respond once treatment starts. It is not on the menu for everyone, and you will be told plainly whether it is on yours and why.

Frequently asked questions
Laser is not going to carry your treatment by itself, and anyone selling it that way is overselling it. The research is stronger for some musculoskeletal pain than for anything else. We use it as one instrument among several, which is the only way we think it earns its place, and it is why nobody here will quote you a course of laser sessions as though that were a treatment plan.
Almost certainly not. Most insurers classify low level laser therapy as investigational and do not cover it. South Florida Acupuncture is a self-pay practice in any case, so this is not a surprise waiting for you at checkout.
Where laser is part of your plan it happens inside a regular visit alongside acupuncture, so one appointment is one appointment. Your initial consultation is $45, and the cost of a plan is set at your evaluation once we know what your case needs.
Tell us at your evaluation if you are pregnant, have a known or suspected malignancy, have any thyroid condition, or are photosensitive or taking a medication that causes photosensitivity. Those are the things that change whether light has a part in your plan, and Susan screens for them before anything is decided.
Because the field has a credibility problem it partly earned. The term covers clinical devices and consumer gadgets alike, and the marketing usually runs well ahead of the evidence. Our position is the narrow one: we use it as part of a plan, we will tell you what part, and if it has none in yours you will hear that at your evaluation rather than after it.
